Destination Schilthorn (2970m).  Having just departed Birg we head straight for the Schilton via gandola.

The Schilthorn has a revolving restaurant.  Behind me is the Jungfrau.

In the distance you see Spiez and the Thuner See.  Hikers descending down to Murren.

My German friend Klaus, who I thank for persuading me to that this great hike to Kiental.  Right above this lunar landscape is the Schilthorn.

My walking stick really came in handy for this 2km descent to Kiental.

What made this hike so interesting was the ever changing landscape.

This descent to Kiental took 6 hours.  Just when I thought we reached the destination we would encounter another valley.

The Chilchflue directly behind me.  This rock face rivals that of El Capitan in Yosemite.  We actually encountered hikers ascending this trail.

Immediately below is Klaus.  Further down is a farm house where we would have lunch.  We would then encounter a steep descent after leaving the plateau below.

Here is the family chopping fire wood.  Most cabins like the one behind me are dated when the house was finally built.  We encountered a cabin along the trail that was dated 1836!

What have we here?  The  Fort Knox of cheese?    About a couple thousand dollars worth of cheese here.  No joke.  No wonder - the cheese tasted delicious.

Right above this cliff is the farm house we had just visited.  After descending down this steep canyon, I refreshed myself in the glacier water.

Another beautiful valley below.  But Kiental is still not within sight.

     More scenes of Spiggegrund valley.
