After spending my first night in France, I visited Mer de Glace.  I arrived her by train from Charmonix.  Mer de Glace is a glacier.  The French bore a tunnel to display ice sculptures inside the glacier.

     A wonderful view of Charmonix!  Tomorrow I would hike on the opposite side of the valley.

     Can you see the Grand Balcon Nord trail?  In the distance is Plan de I'Aiguille - my destination.  Plan de I'Aiguille.  At Plan de I'Aiguille I would take the gandola  down to Charmonix.  A 1000m descent.
